About the event

The Dorothy Ashby Ensemble celebrates the legendary harpist, composer, vocalist, and koto player (1932-1986), a trailblazing African American artist, who redefined the harp’s role in music, blending its ethereal sound with bebop, R&B, and world music. The group deploys cello, voice, guitar, flute, percussion and a full rhythm section to pay direct homage and also reimagine Ashby’s concepts. The program features arrangements by guitarist Alana Amore Colvin and additional settings provided by renowned harpist Brandee Younger.
